Areta Beach
A sheltered cove on Chalki's coast — clear water and a sense of being far from everything, even though the island is small. Often reached by boat tour or coastal walk. Tip: bring water and snacks; facilities are minimal.

Chalki is Rhodes' quiet neighbour — a tiny island with a pretty harbour, clear water, and almost no cars. Most visitors arrive by ferry from Rhodes (around an hour) and settle into a rhythm of swimming, walking, and long lunches by the water.
Chalki is small in the best possible way. The ferry arrives straight into Nimborio, where colourful houses, fishing boats, and waterfront tavernas set the pace for the rest of your stay.
Most days are simple here: swim, walk, read on the terrace, and choose a table by the water for dinner. Some beaches are an easy stroll from the harbour, while others are best reached by boat when the sea is calm.
If you want a little history with the quiet, walk up to Chorio and the old castle in the cooler hours. The views are wide, the paths are peaceful, and by the time you come back down, the harbour will be ready for another slow evening.
Getting there: Fly to Rhodes, then take the ferry from Rhodes town or Kameiros Skala — typically 60–75 minutes to Chalki.

One of Chalki's favourite swimming spots — pebbles, turquoise water, and room to spread out in shoulder season. Tip: combine with a walk along the coast; wear water shoes on the pebbles.
A quiet bay with boats sometimes moored in the shallows — good for a calm swim and photos of the shoreline. Tip: mornings are calmest before any day-trip boats arrive.
The heart of Chalki — neoclassical houses, fishing boats, and tavernas along the waterfront. Most of island life happens within a few minutes' walk. Tip: book dinner tables in August; locals fill up fast.
The old hilltop settlement and ruined castle look down over the island — a rewarding walk with wide views. Tip: go in the cooler hours; carry water and wear decent shoes on the path.
The approach to Chalki by boat is part of the experience — the harbour opening up as you slow into Nimborio. Tip: stand on deck if you can; the first view is the one you'll remember.
